Punjab faces significant agricultural and environmental challenges that threaten its long-term sustainability. The state is grappling with the widespread issue of paddy stubble burning, which contributes to severe air pollution and depletes soil nutrients. Inefficient water usage, driven by over-reliance on groundwater irrigation, has led to alarming levels of groundwater depletion. Declining soil health, monoculture practices, and the loss of biodiversity are further compounding these issues.
To address these challenges, MVS has designed a comprehensive program that combines innovative agricultural practices and community-driven solutions. Through Water Stewardship initiatives, we promote efficient irrigation methods and groundwater recharge, ensuring long-term water security. The Climate Smart Village model helps farmers adapt to climate change by integrating sustainable farming techniques, reducing crop residue burning through Regenerative Agriculture practices, and enhancing soil health. We empower women through self-help groups, skill-building workshops, and leadership opportunities, fostering economic independence. Our Integrated Village Development and Solid Waste Management programs contribute to cleaner, healthier communities. Agro-forestry plantations and kitchen gardening initiatives restore biodiversity while offering nutritional and financial benefits. Additionally, our work in school infrastructure and renewable energy fosters a more sustainable and prosperous rural future.
