Watershed Development

In a country like India, where the majority of the population is engaged in livelihoods largely dependent on the natural resource such as agriculture, factors like quality, availability and access to natural resources occupy a crucial role in influencing incomes earned by households. In a situation like this, watershed development and management practices play a dual role of natural resource conservation as well as livelihood enhancement. For instance, improved soil quality and water availability facilitate higher crop productivity and more fodder for livestock, which in turn augments income earned by the people engaged in such occupation.

MVS Approach for Watersheds

Creating village assets by developing the village tanks through renovation or new constructions to harvest the rain water at its potential and controlling the erosion by soil moisture conservation works based in different slopes.

Problems

Our Approach

Surface waterlogging

During the rainy season, runoff water may build in lowlands and depressions, causing waterlogging in the heavy soils where farm ponds usually capture the rain water and percolates to the ground.

Ground water depletion

Promoting the minor ponds or large tanks for rain water harvesting in the farm lands to recharge the ground water.

Untreated water bodies

Stabilizing the grey water through large shallow ponds enclosed by earthen embankments in which raw waste water is treated entirely by the natural processes involving both algae and bacteria.

Dying springs

Reviving springs through identifying the recharge and discharge zones to conserve the moisture and biomass better soil water preservation.

Rain Water Harvesting Structures

Rainwater harvesting is the collection and storage of rainwater that runs off rooftops, parks, roads, open grounds, etc. This water runoff can be either stored or recharged into the groundwater.
